The secondhand market for hardware is highly competitive. Many offerers, who specialized in different topics, tout for customers; the business field is already established. This is different at used software. Although ZDNet tells that software (as contrasted with hardware) does not wear down, the companies are reserved. „Many IT deciders do not know how many unused values they have“, Axel Oppermann, advisor at the Experton Group, is quoted in the article. But there is a high potential, and Oppermann expects a noticable increase of the utilization of the secondhand market.
The providers of pre-owned software are manageable, too: There are only three market opponents. One provider, preo Software AG, combines the sale of used licences with the licence optimizing. On the one hand, purchase costs can be reduced up to 50 percent, on the other hand, running costs can be reduced, too.
Pre-owned software offers another advantage, reports ZDNet: Elder software versions are available. Many companies jib at a complete cutover to a new system – the secondhand market produces relief.
