More money, owing to pre-owned software? Exactly! The savings bank Kyffhäusen shows how: By buying pre-owned Office-2003-licences from the preo Software AG, it could save about one third of the costs compared with the price for new software.

preo Software AG is the project partner of the „Deutscher Sparkassen und Giroverband“ (DSGV). DSVG is the umbrella organisation of many banks, public insurance companies and other financial service providers.

For savings banks, a sustainable management of material costs has been a big challenge in the last years. Mainly the cost factor „IT“ is growing more and more, reports the Sparkassen Zeitung. That is why it makes sense to take alternative possibilities of purchasing into account: software remarketing and the bargain of pre-owned software can relieve IT budgets noticeably. Used licences are up to 50 percent cheaper than new ones, software remarketing makes it possible to transform unutilised licences into liquid assets. The potential is huge, many institutes have unutilised licences.

Additionally to the possible savings, buying pre-owned software has another advantage: the availability of older software versions. „The standardization to a software generation is a decinding parameter for us“, says Sandra Böttcher from the savings bank Kyffhäusen. Pre-owned software licences could cut the costs so that the savings bank Kyffhäusen paid one-third less – without any loss of quality, because software does not wear down. Böttcher is happy: „The transaction flowed smoothly and unbureaucratic. Within a very short time we received all neccessary documents and papers.“
