PC WELT: „Discussed Controversially – Saved Consequently“

Software is expensive, very expensive. It is no surprise that alternative, cheaper forms of purchasing meet with approval.

PC WELT reports that 50 percent of the original aquisition costs can be saved. In fact, there is no way to save IT aquisition costs faster and better than by buying pre-owned software. Boris Vöge, executive of preo Software AG, affirms that: „The possibility of standardization on elder software versions with pre-owned licences alone reduces the costs by averaged 30 to 50 percent.“

The financial advantages are obvious. But companies also have other reasons that cause a decision for the second hand software market: They can purchase elder software versions that are not offered by the vendors, plus, they can sell software licences that are not used any more and increase their liquidity. Dicussed controversially is the legal status. But PC WELT sums up that pre-owned software is an legal alternative, if some basic parameters like transparency are followed – like that, consequent savings are possible.

„Companies have the right to buy pre-owned software at specialized traders“, says the author of the article, Edith Horton.
