Computer Zeitung: „Pre-Owned Software as an Answer to the Economic Crisis“

In Germany, pre-owned software is more popular than any where else in Europe. 1.500 companies have bought pre-owned software in the last three years, says Peter O’Neill, analyst of Forrester, in the Computer Zeitung.

That is no real surprise: User can save 40 to 60 percent of the licence costs in the purchase, and the sale of unused licences brings in liquid assets. Additionally, there is the possibility to buy older versions of software that are not selled by the software vendors any more. Computer Zeitung reports that worries about the legal situation are causeless. „In the last two years it has emerged that the restraining orders in the standard contracts are invalid and that the basic legitimacy of the trade with pre-owned software is defined legally“, says Matthias Riemann, the managing director of the Munich Strategy Group.
