What does “pre-owned” software mean?

Pre-owned software is software that has already been employed by a previous owner. However, because software cannot be worn out, the term “used” is misleading here. The product itself, including the licence agreement, data storage medium and the manual are as good as new.

Am I permitted to buy or sell software licences?

There is no universally valid answer to this question. The licensing and purchasing conditions must be checked. In principle however, if you have purchased rights of use that are not subject to a time limit then you are allowed to sell these to a third party. We will check your contracts – all you have to do is ask us. The utilisation rights will be transferred in such a way that there are no negative legal implications. This applies to all products that we offer for sale. Our close connections to the software manufacturers are an advantage here. In this way we can ensure that large-volume licences are transferred to the new owner with the direct involvement of the manufacturers.

What is the procedure when purchasing pre-owned software?

In order to ensure a maximum level of legal security for our buyers, the volume licences are transferred through Preo Software AG with the direct involvement of the manufacturers. The new owner receives all the licensing documents and is in the same position as the first owner of the licence.

Can I purchase a single software licence from you as a private individual?

Unfortunately, our offer is only targeted at commercial clients. However, if you are a small company and regularly purchase a small number of licences then you are just as welcome as international corporations that wish to purchase or sell larger volumes of licences. Feel free to contact us by telephone, e-mail or fax and we will make you an individual offer.

Where do the pre-owned software licences come from?

The licences are given to us by companies who possess unused software licences, for example due to consolidations, system conversions and fusions. The origins of the software are properly documented.

Can I only buy older pre-owned software or also current software versions?

You can purchase both current and older versions from us. However the range of current pre-owned versions is less than the older versions. For this reason we recommend that you contact us as early as possible so that we can plan in advance accordingly.

Will I receive support for pre-owned software?

We collaborate closely with large computer retailers (Large Account Resellers) such as Computacenter. Through these partners we are able to offer you support contracts for levels 1 and 2.

Why don’t I receive a notarised certificate from preo?

Because we transfer the software licences taking into account the valid licence requirements of the software manufacturers, who we also involve in the process, we do not need to provide a certificate. It is also important that you are aware that a certificate is no substitute for proof of a licence that is able to bear up against an audit. A notary cannot attest the legality of the transfer.

What should I take into account if I want to sell pre-owned software?

Software licences must be complete, that means all the components belonging to a licence must be transferred together. Supplementary requirements apply to volume licences. The software that is sold must be completely de-installed from the computers of the seller. Backup copies are not permitted.

Which kind of software can I sell to preo Software AG?

We not only purchase current versions but also older single- and volume software. We are particularly interested in all Microsoft, SAP, Citrix, IBM, Adobe and Novell licences. In addition, CAD and virtualisation tools are of interest to us. Simply get in touch with us.
