IT Patchwork Infrastructure Results In a Loss of Productivity of up to 40 Percent

Working with different software generations within a company is difficult to handle, especially for IT managers. At first sight it seems as if there are only two options for IT managers: Either they launch a new software generation ad hoc or they implement the software solutions gradually and by this risk a loss of productivity. Both options are very expensive. But besides these two options there is a more efficient and innovative possibility at a reduced rate, which makes a liaison of all interests realizable – pre-owned software.

For many companies Office programs are the most important applications on desktops. They allow improved performances, which have a positive effect in competitive situations. This amortizes the investment in these applications fast. Nevertheless, IT managers often decide on activities, which turn advantages to disadvantages.

Due to small IT budgets, new software generations can only occur step by step. “This salami attack leads to a higher effort of administration and training”, explains Boris Vöge, executive of preo Software AG, specialized in software remarketing. The alternative solution is to recapitalize your old software licenses and to purchase the new ones as pre-owned software licenses. If different departments use different software generations this often leads to functionality problems and finally to a loss of efficiency. Additionally new product features can be used only peripherally. This affects especially the cooperation of single employees, cooperating groups and controlling and administration of internal processes or of processes of the company network.
